    What Should I Get?

This text originally appeared on TimV's Digital Floyd Project page (he is the original author) which does no longer exist. I got the permission to reproduce the text here. -- Herwig Henseler

First of all, let me strongly suggest purchasing all of PF's legitimate releases first. This includes their live albums. But for those of us who have collected their works for a long time, collecting RoIOs helps soothe the long years between their releases and keeps our interest in the band high. NOTE: RoIO recordings are rarely, if ever, the quality of P*U*L*S*E or a studio release so if you are looking for alternatives to buying their official albums, you are looking in the wrong places.

That having been said, these are some of the RoIOs with the best soundquality or rarity. This is certainly not an exhaustive list, as there are others I really love.

    Paleozoic: PATGOD to Meddle Era

    • The Complete Top Gear - All of the early BBC performances with Syd or Dave
    • Man and the Journey - Amsterdam show from 1969, a classic must have
    • California Sun/Moon - This pair is the best of the San Francisco 1970 PBS show
    • Smoking Blues - excellent show from Montreux Jazz Festival
    • Cosmic Music - great early Echoes
    • Meddler - 1971 BBC show with great sq
    • Great Gig on the Moon - 1972 set in Japan, great show
    • Staying Home to Watch the Rain - Great Dane did a great job issuing this version from LA

    Mesozoic: DSOTM to the Wall

    • Yeeshkul - Great performance that includes both OBC and DSOTM materials
    • Childhood's End - As above
    • In the Sky- Probably the best of the 74 BBC session
    • Dogs and Sheeps - Nice 75 shows with early Animals materials
    • Boston Gardens - same as above
    • Plays the Animals - Best of the complete 77 dates
    • Welcome to the Machine - excellent sound quality, WYWH material only
    • Azimuth Coordinator Part 2 - great performance on a tough night
    • Brick by Brick - Great Wall show with the rehearsals included
    • Live Wall 1+2 - Earls Court Wall show that rivals for the best sq

    Cenozoic: AMLOR to TDB

    • Prism - Early show that includes Echoes!
    • A Clear View - First non-Echoes 87 date, but excellent sq
    • Nothing is Changed - More polished show from later in the AMLOR/DSOT tour
    • The Live Bell - Best of the 1994 tour
    • The Bell Gets Louder - Obnoxious crowd, as usual with 94 materials, but good sq

    Solo:

    • Dave Gilmour - In Floyd We Trust
    • Roger Waters - Pros and Cons of Live Hitch Hiking
    • Roger Waters - In the Pink
    • Roger Waters - Complete KAOS
    • Roger Waters - Goodbye Mr Pink Floyd or Canada 1987

    Compilations:

    • Total Eclipse - of course, the classic RoIO
    • Magnesium Proverbs - Great early Barrett materials
    • A CD Full of Secrets (non-RoIO) - incredible sq as it was originally a Westwood One radio production
